1.-The camera does not focus on the correct subject

2.-there is not enough light

One of the biggest problems autofocus faces is the lack of light. Many models have an AF system with extra light that helps the camera focus correctly in these cases. Options? Focus manually ...

Another possible solution is to add another light source to the scene, focus, turn off the light, and shoot in manual mode.

That's why many professional photographers spend more money on more expensive SLR systems with highly sensitive AF modes and apertures of F / 2.8 and f / 2.0.

3.-The contrast is very low

Even the best cameras need to find a good contrast to focus properly.

If we see that the camera does not focus well, we can try to select an AF point that is in the area with the highest contrast. Cross-type AF points are more sensitive because they can detect contrast in two planes and not just one.

4.-The subject is very close

The cameras of mobile phones or compact cameras tend to focus better on close subjects than a DSLR, so many times we will be forced to lean back a bit.

Many times we will have to go to manual mode to make a good focus since the autofocus will not be able to do it correctly. We can also try to do it with the wide-angle instead of with the telephoto lens.

5.- Inaccurate manual focus

Many times when we try to focus through the viewfinder of the camera we do not see the subject in all the possible detail. The solution can be found in Live View mode.

We can compose the image on the camera screen and magnify the details. It's so much easier to see if we're getting a good shot.

6.-The camera does not adjust the focus well when the subject moves

When the subject is not moving we will not have any problem. We press the shutter button halfway and focus correctly.

What if the subject moves? Well, we will have to go to Continuous AF mode, with which the camera will continue to focus on the subject while we have the shutter button pressed halfway.

7.-There is no AF point on the subject


There is no AF point on the subject

Many times there is no AF point directly on the subject. In this case, it is best to switch to “Single-AF” mode and normally choose the center AF point and position it on the subject before pressing the shutter button halfway to focus on the subject.

Then, keeping the shutter button pressed, we recompose the image before pressing the shutter button fully to take the photo.
